there aren't any really.

Can someone please make some recommendations on how to word that better if it seems "cryptic"? Kinda want to do away with the "How do I upload" questions on the board, and I guess I just am not the person to handle this because it seems really clear as-is. Help. Please.

i didn't mean it in a negative way. It makes perfect sense to me as well. I was just saying there was no "definative instructions" like:

1) first, go to www.ftp.com,
2) right click save as
3) etc.

The current write-up tells you what needs to be done, just not how to do it.

Edit: thought i could use [b] tags, guess not :)

Ok, thanks Ed, that makes sense. I'll see what I can do about that.

The bold tags use these: "<"

Clear as is? Your telling me you read that and were able to get a show up. OK Albert!! Those instructions suck! And a message board is for help if you need it. What do you care. If you see it don't read and move on. Geez.......

From the perspective of a bunch of months away, looking at all the band activations (and all that yummy GD for instance), I imagine we're getting a *lot* more folks nowadays who've never even heard of say etree.org or even ftp before stopping by. (Anyone remember my aging Dad who can barely click his way around the net? He's stopped by... :) )

It's sometimes hard for us old-schoolers to see things through newbie eyes and see where their sticking points are. Some additional constructive suggestions (like Ed's) could help clarify some spots in the FAQ for the new folks.

There's still a need to balance FAQs by having enough detail while keeping them from being too bloated and overdone. If there are too many words and "fiddly" details, then people can get even more confused by information overload.

Maybe it'll just be a matter of adding a few more crosslinks to things. ...Because we care. ;)

Thanks Diane. You said it all. Sorry if my previous post sounded harsh, but I always believe in helping one another not complaining about it no matter what the subject. Does everyone remember when you first started just burning or using EAC or something. Nobody is an expert out of the box. Peace

(Yes I was like "what's this FTP" stuff! But we almost got it now!!)

Good, now it's your turn ifyouchoose. Answer my question above and help us figure out what needs rewriting. Please!!! Don't just take your help and run, give back! Make a contribution! Follow your own advice!

To be crystal clear with what we need - what part of the upload instructions gives you the most problem? Copy and paste them here and ask us "What does this mean?" Let us know where you 'found the light' that wasn't provided in the instructions. This is important to us! We can't see the process like you can, so revamping requires your help.

Please don't get defensive, but.... Yes, I (and many other quiet ones) would much prefer a definitive set of upload instructions that limit the weekly posts asking the same questions. I honestly see absolutely nothing wrong with that - afterall, wouldn't that just be helping a lot of people? - Newbies like you, oldbies, and the folks that have been here for years...?

Repectfully,

-Brad

I have no idea what the hell your talking about. Who's taking help and running??? If I could help someone which I have many times if given the opportunity I will. When I am finished figuring out this whole uploading process I would glady help someone who is just starting out or give advice on how I think anything should be or could be improved. Not whining about the subject of a post. Which is what your doing again. You can reply again but I am not going to waste my time with someone who seems selfish and sounds like he wants to prove he's always right. I know the type.

Respectfully>.............

This system needs to be improved, you've made that clear. We would like to do that with your direction. All it requires is time for a couple emails.

Or if you'd prefer, the group mailing adrress for all the admins is here: etree at archive dot org Diana is on this list too.

Your choice, we'd like to hear from you when you're done.

Boy us Italians sometimes jump the gun!! Sorry Brad. I didn't read your post close to be honest. But I will drop a line off the board and let you know what I think. And if you think anything I say (which may be allot! haha) would help you can post it. I don't want to tie up the board with this thread. You are right as I just looked at the board and it could be bothersome to some. If people do give opinions as to how to make e-tree or anything else better for that matter it does help. I'll be in touch for sure. Sorry for any previous negative comments. See why I didn't understand in the 1st place! I CAN'T READ TOO WELL!! And maybe I was too anxious to help put a GRATE band in Rocks From The Garden's music up as they sent me some excellent acoustic shows they did the past year. I probably should have left that task to them.
Peace

Thanks to Diane for the mail also. JDB will be up too! Thanks!!
